Tasting the wines of Windowrie over Summer
Relaxing summer weekends in Cowra lend themselves to a light lunch and wine tasting at one of the region’s oldest buildings, the Windowrie Cellar Door.
Located right in the heart of Cowra, the 150 year old Mill will be opening over summer for lunches, coffee and wine tastings, as well as showcasing a broad range of the region’s fabulous local produce.

Visitors to the region can enjoy a piece of NSW’s history in the majestic building whilst tasting Windowrie’s medal and trophy winning wines, including the Windowrie ‘The Mill’ Cabernet Merlot which holds the trophy for the ‘Best Bordeaux Blend’ from the NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show.
The opening hours over the coming months are:
Friday to Sunday (and Public Holidays): 11am to 5pm
The cellar door is also open by appointment during other days by calling 02 6341 4141.
“We are concentrating on the weekend visitors over summer,” explained Cellar Door Manager and family owner Nook O’Dea.
“Historically this is the period when we welcome the most visitors. We will be having our light lunches and coffee, and of course our wines.”
The full range of wines are also available to purchase via Windowrie’s website atwww.windowrie.com.au
“We have experienced a surge in interest for our wines from our website. The increase in online sales has been substantial, with visitors often ordering wines online after spending some time in the region. We are also seeing more interest in the region coming from social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.”
“Our cellar door staff will be spending more time in the winery and vineyards helping with the 2012 vintage. This is always a fun time, as well as building our staff knowledge base, which in turn helps in the cellar door, as they have been part of the winemaking.”

WINDOWRIE ESTATE is one of the Cowra region’s founding winemakers. Established by the O’Dea family in 1988, the business experienced considerable success, allowing them to build a 6000 tonne winery in 1999. The Windowrie range now comprises the ‘Family Reserve’, ‘The Mill and ‘Deep River’ range. A feature of Windowrie is The Mill cellar door and function centre located in the heart of Cowra. The old, rundown 1859 flour mill was painstakingly restored by the family in the 1990s and is now a key attribute of the town.
