Orange businesses lay plans to ease accommodation burden
Key stakeholders within the Orange and surrounding region met today to discuss the management of the region’s short and long term accommodation crisis.
The extremely positive meeting brought together Orange City Council, Cabonne Council, Taste Orange, Newcrest Mining, Western NSW Local Health District (Mental Health), Charles Sturt University, University of Sydney, Central West Business Chamber and Orange Real Estate Agency representatives.
“It was a very constructive meeting, and exciting to see the Real Estate agents gathered together, reflecting their interest in developing a partnership with other businesses in the region,” commented Rhonda Sear, Taste Orange Executive Officer.
“The demand for short and longer term accommodation is outweighing the availability. This is certainly not a new issue, however we are working together as a group to manage this issue in a more ‘Orange friendly’ manner.”
The proposal that resulted from the meeting was that the Real Estate Agents form a collective group in order to work together to ensure that all possible avenues to accommodate business needs are explored.
This Real Estate group will work with the region’s businesses in order to develop a list of criteria to meet the businesses accommodation needs.
A generic accommodation request application will be issued to these businesses in order to collate their requirements. As accommodation needs arise, the Real Estate group will distribute the completed request application to Real Estate agencies in Orange in order to locate accommodation in a systematic, effective and timely manner.
“This is a very positive step for Orange, which we believe will ease the negativity surrounding the search for rental properties, especially for those families who have secured work or educational opportunities,” concluded Rhonda.
